The festival of colours – Holi is here! The day before the colorful celebration, people gather to set up a huge bonfire, keeping in mind the legend of Prahlad and Holika. Parikrama is known as Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi.
Holika Dahan is a religious ritual of Hindus in which, a night before Holi, pyres are burnt to symbolize the win of good over evil. It is a festival in which people celebrate the death of ‘Holika’ and the safety of Bhakt Prahalad. People sing and dance around the fire to celebrate the festival.
Holika Dahan Timing
According to Hindu scriptures, Holika Dahan is doing during the Pradosh period, which starts after sunset. Doing Holika Dahan during the right Muhurat timing is very vital as doing the rituals at the wrong time can lead to bad luck.
You should never perform Holika Dahan in Bhadra Mukha timing. Doing so will bring misfortune for the entire year.
